Understanding Me Cards

The Understanding Me Cards are a practical, child‑friendly tool designed to help pupils explore the needs underneath their behaviour, emotions and everyday experiences in school. Created for children and young people aged 8–16, the set includes 56 need-based statements organised into seven key areas, with 8 cards in each category:

• Autonomy & Independence

• Learning & Confidence

• Self-worth & Identity

• Belonging & Relationships

• Sensory Needs

• Body & Well-being

Designed for use by teachers, TAs, ELSAs, SENCOs, pastoral staff, educational psychologists and families, the cards create a safe way for children to communicate their inner world. They support adults to look beneath behaviour and build a clearer picture of the unmet needs driving a child’s actions.
